Fixed Income

2008 was one of the most extraordinary years ever in the fixed income markets. Every major asset class from US to International stocks, corporate bonds, international bonds, emerging markets debt, commodities, and collectibles finished the year lower...except for US Treasury securities.

In an unprecedented flight to safety, investors drove Treasury yields to all-time lows--sometimes even approaching negative returns!

Tax exempt securities are extremely attractive today--providing yields that,in many instances, are actually higher than taxable Treasuries--AND those yields are TAX FREE.

With today’s understandable concern over bond safety, now more than ever, selecting good fixed income investments really requires professional guidance. There are just too many facts and factors to consider--and too many pitfalls into which to unknowingly stumble. Some fixed income investments are guaranteed. Others might be guaranteed, but carry only limited guarantees. Still other fixed bonds might be callable, meaning that they might get called away from you with little advance notice, leaving you in a position to find a suitable replacement at a time when interest rates might be lower.

Balancing safety and liquidity with competitive yields in today's market environment is what we get paid for. For an investment that will likely be held for years--if not a decade or more-- doesn't it make sense to get guidance from professionals prior to investing a substantial portion of your life's savings?

Even for professionals, fixed income investments can be some of the most challenging of all investments to understand, purchase, and continually evaluate.

At Maine Securities, our team of fixed income professionals has decades of combined professional experience working with fixed income investments. We know— first-hand-- just what bear markets in bonds are all about. Experience DOES count--particularly with the secure and stable portions of your portfolio.

Where does all of this take us in 2009?

Maine Securities offers decades of fixed income expertise and some of the Maine’s most competitive fixed income management fees. If you are in the Maine tax exempt market, rest assured, no one knows Maine municipal securities like Maine Securities Corporation!
